October 23, 24 and 25, 2008 – SAWITRI’s first home season. A double bill focusing on new generation writers, director and actors. Performed at the SAMPRADAYA Dance Centre, both ANTHONY OF GREEN GABLES by Michael Misek, and POINT OF VIEW by Zehra Abbas, were directed by Gabriel Grey. The plays deal with the typical pressures that young men and women face in a South Asian household when they reach a ‘marriageable age’ according to their parents.
June 22, 2008 – ANTHONY OF GREEN GABLES written by Michael Misek and directed by Gabriel Gray – a spirited spoof with a distinctly South Asian flavour. Inspired by and commemorating a 100 years of Anne of Green Gables, this is a tale of valiant heroes and ministering angels skillfully manipulated by an ailing mother from her hospital bed – quintessentially South Asian! Premiered at the 2008 Telus Mosaic South Asian Heritage Festival ofMississauga.
