SAWITRI Theatre Group presents 3rd Dine & Discover Series presentation on Saturday April 25, 2015, 7-00 pm onwards at Sampradaya Theatre, 4-3250 Ridgeway Drive, Mississauga. Featuring the compositions of renowned music composer Sachin Dev Burman rendered by vocalists Darshak Vaishnav, Harjit Pabla, Deepali Rana and Spruha Vaishnav. Accompanied by Mehboob Thawer on keyboard and Manmit Singh on tabla.
Bringing the community together with music and food! Discover the music, the artist and oneself in its context! SAWITRI’S inaugural Dine & Discover Series was launched with the melodies of versatile composer, Madan Mohan. The evening was a tribute to a beloved artist of the Hindi film industry (aka Bollywood), celebrating his genius. The magical mix of his musical compositions made for an emotional, nostalgic and romantic journey. Sachin Dev Burman – This renowned music composer of the Bollywood film industry composed music for over 100 films. He is most known for films such as Taxi Driver (1954), Nau do Gyarah (1957), Kala Paani (1958), Munimji (1955), Paying Guest (1957), etc. and for Guru Dutt classics – Pyaasa (1957) and Kaagaz ke Phool (1959). In 2004, the soundtrack for Pyaasa was chosen as one of “The Best Music in Film” by Sight & Sound, the British Film Institute magazine. In addition to the legacy of his compositions, he left behind his son, Rahul Dev Burman, a seminal music director of Bollywood in the 70s and 80s. *
