November 12, 2011 – I (k)NO(w) ENGLIS – at the Maja Prentice Theatre, Missisauga, for the 9th Hindustani Drama Festival by RangManch-Canada. SAWITRI’s first Gujarati* play, based on real life experiences of writer-interpreter, Neeta Dave. Directed by Naimesh Nanavaty it is an insightful and humourous exploration of Gujarati-speaking new immigrants’ efforts at learning English to integrate into Canadian society.
*Gujarati, one of the 22 major languages of India, largely spoken in the state of Gujarat, and by over 100,000 people in the Greater Toronto Area.
